XB2 upgrade

Since the Solidlights 1203D was first launched in early 2005, LED and optical technology has moved on. The Solidlights XB2 uses new, more efficient LEDs and optics to achieve greater light output and a better beam.
Fortunately, Solidlights modular design means that it's possible for us to upgrade even the oldest examples of the 1203D to use the latest, brightest LEDs.
what's better about it?
The upgrade replaces the existing LEDs and lenses (which we call the 'optical module') with new ones. The LEDs are more than 2.5 times as efficient as the old ones, which means that for the same amount of electrical power, you get more than 150% extra light. In addition, we've carefully matched the new LEDs with new lenses to give you a precisely-focused beam which makes the most of the available brightness.
Below is a graph showing the beam patterns and relative brightness of the XB2 and 1203D. The dramatic increase in light output from the XB2 is clear.

how do I get it?
Your 1203D or 1203DR light will need to be returned to Solidlights to have the upgrade fitted. At the same time, at no extra cost, we'll check it over and make sure it's in tip-top working order.
You can order the upgrade in the online shop. When you send your light to us, include a note of your name and address (please make sure they match the ones you entered into the online shop). There's a handy PDF form to print out here.
The address to send to is on the contact page.
how much does it cost?
The upgrade costs £70, including UK VAT, plus £6.50 Royal Mail Special Delivery postage and packing. There are no hidden extras.
how long will it take?
Upgrades are normally done in batches, on Mondays, and shipped back the same day or on Tuesday morning. So if you send it to us for upgrading, you should receive it back the following Tuesday or Wednesday. If you're outside the UK, shipping will take a little longer.
do I get a guarantee?
Yes. All upgraded lights are guaranteed for a year after the upgrade.
If you've got more questions, you may find the answers to them on our Frequently Asked Questions page.
